Lent Teaching Series

Who do you say I AM?

In the series on Church History that John Eyers brought to us in October/ November 2018, John said the following:

“For Peter and John, the focus wasn’t on a bit of theory, a bit of theology, it was on the Jesus that they knew in the flesh; what he said, what he did, how he responded and reacted. And for us also, just as for Peter and John, the fixed point, the starting point should be Jesus, not a list of doctrines, not a prescription for how it applied to somewhere else, in Rome, or in Colossae or wherever, but Jesus himself, and then to be led to see how that applies to people in Hampshire in 2019!

We need to spend our biggest effort learning to read the gospels, to focus on the Jesus of the gospels, to know and to listen to Jesus as a person.”

For our Lent series, we are going to focus on Jesus, and try and under- stand more of who he was, both as a human and as God. We will do this through the seven “I AM” sayings of Jesus, as these statements revealed different aspects of his nature. ln doing this, we want to answer the question in our own lives that Jesus asked Peter: “Who do you say I am?”. Jesus is our bread, our light, our shepherd, our door, our way, truth and life, our vine and our resurrection - let us find ways in this series to live this out through our lives.
