the park lent cross 2018
During the 2018 Lent period, a large empty cross was displayed at the front of the chancel at Park Church.
On each of the six Sundays of Lent a symbol was added to the blank Cross. The symbols
invited us to remember the stages of the Passion of Jesus in the last days of
his life.
The symbols used were as follows:
1. Arrival in Jerusalem - ‘Palm’ branches framed the Cross
2. Betrayal by Judas - A draw string purse with coins in it was hung from one arm of the Cross.
3. Servanthood - A Towel was hung from the opposite arm with a Bowl beneath it.
4. Passover - Bread and a cup were placed opposite the bowl at the base of the Cross.
5. King’s Crown - A plaited crown of thorns was fitted over the top of the Cross.
6. Crucifixion - A hammer and 3 large nails were placed centrally before the Cross.
The symbols were removed during the Good Friday Service.
On Easter Day everyone was invited to bring flowers to decorate the Cross.
Here is our cross during that Lent period.
